Yacht Delivery Captain Rates
Professional yacht delivery is typically priced using daily rates for the captain and any additional crew required to safely complete the voyage. Every delivery is unique, so the final cost depends on the vessel, route, operating schedule and crew requirements. The information below explains how professional yacht delivery captain rates are determined and what you can expect when requesting a quote from Trusted Yacht Delivery.
Typical Yacht Delivery Captain Rates
The following daily rates represent typical pricing for professional yacht delivery services.
| Position | Typical Daily Rate |
|---|---|
| Licensed Delivery Captain | $400–$800 per day |
| Deckhand / Crew Member | $200–$300 per day |
| Credentialed Seaman | $300 per day |
These rates are guidelines only. Every delivery is quoted individually based on the vessel, route and operational requirements.
What Determines a Yacht Delivery Captain’s Rate?
Unlike many marine services, yacht delivery is not simply based on mileage. Every assignment requires evaluating the vessel, the intended route, seasonal weather, fuel range and crew requirements before determining an accurate estimate.
Factors affecting captain rates include:
- Length and type of vessel
- Powerboat or sailboat
- Offshore versus Intracoastal routing
- Expected trip duration
- Cruising speed
- Weather conditions
- Mechanical condition of the vessel
- Number of crew members required
- Daylight-only or continuous operation
- International or domestic delivery
Many owners assume that two boats traveling the same route will cost the same to deliver. In reality, a fast, well-maintained vessel may complete the trip in half the time of an older displacement yacht, resulting in a significantly different overall cost.
Why Crew Requirements Matter
The captain is responsible for determining how many qualified crew members are required for each voyage. While some shorter deliveries can safely be completed with a captain alone, many offshore passages and longer routes require additional crew to maintain safe watch schedules.
Crew requirements are based on safety, not simply cost. Proper rest, navigation, weather monitoring and vessel management are critical during extended passages.
What’s Included in the Captain’s Daily Rate?
The daily captain rate covers the professional services required to safely relocate your vessel.
- Voyage planning
- Route selection
- Weather monitoring
- Navigation
- Watch management
- Routine vessel inspections
- Communication during the trip
- Arrival coordination
Owner-paid expenses such as fuel, provisions, transportation, dockage and canal fees are generally separate from captain and crew compensation.

How Many Crew Members Will My Delivery Require?
Every vessel is evaluated individually. Factors affecting crew size include:
- Length of voyage
- Offshore versus coastal operation
- Night operation
- Insurance requirements
- Vessel systems
- Owner participation
Our goal is to provide the safest and most efficient crew for every assignment while keeping unnecessary expenses to a minimum.
Owner-Assisted Deliveries
Many owners choose to accompany the captain during their yacht delivery. Depending on experience and the planned route, owner participation may reduce the need for additional crew, although safety always remains the deciding factor.
